A Horse of a Different Color

My God it’s been quite the week. School is school, which has repeatedly been established. There is nothing new or interesting to talk about in that regard. But once I was out of school Wednesday, it was my spring break! Yay! Or, I guess it isn’t Spring break, it’s Fall break. It doesn’t look very Springy out here about now. It pours down rain most nights and a lot of the days, but we’ve been lucky enough to have some clear weather over the Easter holidays. Wednesday I got out of school and went to work. Came home, watched a movie, and went to bed. I had to rest up for the big days of doing nothing I had before me. Let’s just start at the beginning, shall we?

Thursday was the absolute nuttiest day I have ever had here. Everyone was getting ready to leave on their Easter trips so we wanted to all hang out before. All of the bars closed at midnight because it was going to be good Friday and God forbid we drink booze on the Lords day (didn’t Jesus turn water into wine??). Anyway, Karlie and I went to work together. I am really excited because both Karlie and Brittney got a job at the place I am working. He needed a few extra people to help out cleaning in the kitchen during hours and do deliveries. Karlie was so funny when she got her first delivery. She made it and everything went fine, but she had to drive on the left side of the road and she was totally freaked she might hit someone. We got off around 8 and started walking home together and thought about what we were going to do. We realized that there was a Toga party at the Uni bar and thought it would be awesome to go. We snagged some good looking leaves off someone’s tree and bought a plain white sheet we were going to share for toga fabric. Little did we know that everything was sold out and that we just wasted ten bucks on a sheet neither of us was going to use. Regardless of the toga issue, we decided to go to the tavern across the street for student night because everyone seemed to be going there after the toga party anyway. So, we bought 3 bottles of terrible champagne (for $12 no less!) and settled up in Karlie’s room so she could get ready. We barely got through one bottle before Pip, Libby, and Mike called to get us on the free bus. SO, off we went. We finished the first bottle quickly after and, since we were waiting, I went back to get the second one. We all shared and talked and hung out, waiting for the bus, and soon the second bottle was drained. Naturally, Karlie went back to get the third one. It was funny, because we waited for 30 minutes for a bus that was supposed to come right when we called, but none of us cared. Once on the bus, it was off to the tavern.

The rest of the night goes as follows:
· Get rained on in line
· Get in and get a drink
· Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, Bathroom
· Come out of the bathroom and see a guy hit his girl friend. Push the guy, yell at him, push him again, get pushed. He’s kicked out.
· Find that chick that just got hit. Talk to her, calm her down, tell her she can stick with us.
· Drinks.
· Somehow, that asshole got let back in, he throws a drink on this girl when she tries to tell him to fuck off, and she gets upset and leaves. He is kicked out. Again.
· It’s getting late but all our friends are here. Drink, laugh, talk, drink, talk, laugh, dance.
· Home to Karlie’s room. The fire alarm goes off for 45 minutes. We call Michael and Charlie (the landlords) they are at the hospital with their kids. We feel bad.
· Back into Karlie’s room. We drew with pastels and listened to music for 3 hours. AMAZING.
· Wait, this is boring now, let’s go skinny dipping!
· Hop the fence, jump in the pool, freak out because we don’t want to get caught, jump out, run back to our rooms.
· Wake up Hilda (soaking wet in the dining room) to tell her I’ll miss her for the week she'll be gone.
· Go to my room, call Jordan, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
· Goodnight.

Basically it was a total shit show. I’m stoked I am alive. Haha! I thought I broke my ankle, but I just had huge gnarly bruises all over it from eating shit climbing over the fence. Way to go me…

Anyway, Friday was good. I slept a lot, chilled out, did nothing. It was exactly what I wanted to be doing. I didn’t even have to go to work because it was so slow!

Saturday was also nice. I didn’t do anything beside hang out with Karlie until she left for New Zealand and take a nap before work. I went to work, got paid (yes!), and came home to wine and a movie and to talk to Pooya about going to Byron Bay. I was SO stoked to go. Everyone went there at the beginning of the semester and I was dying to go too! We decided to head out early in the morning, so I went to bed and get ready to rock!

Sunday we were off and running before ten. It was pretty crappy weather outside, but we were hoping for some good stuff once we got there. We went through Coolangata and Pooya drove us past a place where you can look back and see the entire Gold Coast across the beach. It was beautiful. Once we got into Byron the roads were at a standstill. Blues Fest was going on and there were thousands of people there to watch. Ben Harper and John Butler Trio were both playing Sunday, so it was crazy busy. Once we finally got into the city we stopped at a great burger joint (kind of like the Bear!) and had lunch. The food here is SO amazing. The burgers have this great taste… I can’t explain! They toast the bun and put special stuff on it and it is just so damn delicious! Anyway, we had lunch, bought Pooya a swim suit, and headed towards the beach.

On the way we saw signs for a lighthouse and decided to detour to go see that. I am so happy we did! It was amazing! It was the lighthouse of “The Most Easterly Point of Mainland Australia”. It was beautiful. We walked a fair way, up over the beach and onto the lighthouse platform. It was the best view I have ever seen. We walked as far as we could (or... as far as we wanted to!) and stopped where we could see the most easterly point. It was a LONG walk down to it and there were a lot of very menacing looking stairs, so we decided that looking at it was good enough. After the lighthouse it was time for the beach. We found a little place to park and walked down. It was so nice. The sun was just getting low and there weren’t too many people on the beach. I lay on my towel and took pictures while Pooya went for a swim. He came back and we had fun talking and writing stuff in the sand. I am really lucky to have such great room mates. They’re good people and wonderful friends. After the beach we got some ice cream and headed back home. I was exhausted and fell asleep in the car. When we got home I made dinner and decided to watch a movie. It was the perfectly calm end to a wonderful day.

Monday was a good day as well. I met up with my friend Jayde at the Australia Faire Mall and did some shopping. I got groceries and some stuff for the house that I desperately needed. It was nice to have some cash to pay for all of it for once. On the drive home she started talking about her Easter weekend and all of the church stuff she had going on. She asked me a lot of questions about why I’m not religious and what I believe and why. She was honestly freaked out when I said I didn’t really believe in anything and I wasn’t too worried about it. She said she would pray for me and that was nice. I felt bad for being so nonchalant about it. She was honestly worried about the sanctity of my soul. I didn’t quite know how to tell her that no matter what she said, I wasn’t going to start believing in God. It was a nice conversation but I feel like she left a little down hearted. The rest of Monday was lazy. What else is there to do when it’s raining out?

Tuesday was also a rainy day. I took advantage of that, sat around at home, and talked to Jordan a lot. I love days like that. I returned all my movies and rented a few new ones. The newest Futurama movie was hilarious! It made me sad though that I couldn’t watch it with Jordan. It’s kind of our thing. J Anyway, after that I decided to watch ‘Reign Over Me’ because I had wanted to see it since it was in theatres and it was only about 8pm. BAD IDEA. I sat on the couch for two hours getting sadder and sadder and feeling so bad for this guy. The worst part is that the movie doesn’t really come to a clear and decisive happy ending. It just ends with a little bit of hope that things might turn out ok. I was really bummed out! So, I came into my room, listened to music, and went to bed.

Wednesday was my working day. I have a literature review due on Monday that I hadn’t started until yesterday. I found 14 sources and read all of the journal articles. It was exhausting. I didn’t even write part of my paper! I just found and read all of the articles! I hate papers like this. It is so boring! Anyway, I found all the sources and had a massive headache so I decided to lay down for a bit. I chilled, talked to Jordan, and then got ready for a work. Work was really fun. He hired another girl to work with us. Her name is Katie. He keeps hiring girls named Kate to work there. Wierdo… She was really sweet and we worked well together. It was busy for a Wednesday and I was pretty tired by the time I got home at 8. I watched two episodes of ‘Criminal Minds’ and then it was off to bed for me.

This morning I woke up, had some breakfast, and now here I am. It’s a beautiful day. I think I am either going to go to the beach or do a photo shoot with a friend of mine. Either way, it’s going to be a good day. I miss everyone so much! You’re all wonderful and I wish you were here. It makes me so sad to think about being so far away from you all.

But that’s a horse of a different color. It’s a beautiful day, I’m off to see the wizard!
